The First Time I Sent a Child to be Spanked Wednesday, Dec 31 2008

I sent a child to the office because he had been hitting and kicking other children. I was upset when Iearned later that he had been spanked.
The first time I sent a child to be spanked I cried. I was a graduate student, and substitute teaching on the days that I didn’t have to go to class was a big help financially. One day when I went to get the fourth-graders I was teaching from lunch and recess I heard another teacher reprimanding one of my students. I asked what the problem was, and she told me that Adam (not his real name) had been kicking other children who were trying to get a drink at the water fountain.

Visions of broken permanent teeth and bloodied mouths came quickly to my mind, and I gave Adam a lecture on the possible consequences of his actions. I told him that if I saw him kicking or hitting another child that I would send him to the office. On the way back to the classroom, less than a minute later, I saw him kicking one of his classmates.

As soon as we returned to the classroom I wrote a note to the principal explaining what Adam had done, and sent him to the office. The rest of the class and I continued with the work that their regular teacher had left until it was time for them to go to Art.

I was about to escort the children to Art when Adam returned. He was crying and looked up at me fearfully. I was rattled by his tears, but I didn’t let it show. After taking the class to Art I headed straight for the office for an explanation.

The principal told me that this was the fourth incident in two days in which Adam had been violent toward other children. The boy’s mother was called, and she came to the school. The principal discussed her son’s actions with her, and spanked him in front of her. Ironically, Adam was spanked to teach him that violence was wrong.

I had not known that the child was going to be spanked when I sent him to the office, but if I had known, I would have sent him anyway. He had been warned, and, more importantly, I had an obligation to ensure the safety and well-being of the other children.

After leaving the office I went back to the classroom and cried. About five minutes before it was time to go and get the children from Art I put a cold, wet paper towel on my eyes because they were red and swollen, and I didn’t want the children to know I had been crying.

The next week I subbed for the Art teacher. The incident about Adam’s spanking came up, and some students from another class wanted to know who got spanked. I refused to tell them.

After school, Adam, who had been acting like a persecuted martyr, came up to me and reminded me that he was the kid I had sent to be spanked. I assured him that I remembered, but that I had an obligation to protect his privacy. He could tell anyone he wanted, but I wouldn’t. He was shocked, and didn’t say anything.

The next time I subbed for Adam’s classroom teacher I was the one who was shocked. Adam smiled at me, and greeted me pleasantly. He did his work, followed instructions the first time, and went out of his way to be helpful. He even brought me a flower he had picked during recess!

I don’t believe that Adam was trying to placate me so that I wouldn’t send him to the office again, and I certainly don’t believe that he enjoyed his punishment. I think that he felt secure because he knew that I wouldn’t put up with inappropriate behavior, and he knew that I cared about him and respected his privacy.

Children are constantly testing their boundaries, not to aggravate the adults around them but because they need to know how far they should go. Children want, and need, their parents, teachers, and other authority figures to make clear what they should and should not do.

As important as it is for children to be told when they’ve done something wrong, it’s even more important that adults tell them when they’ve done something right. Children are usually eager to please the adults around them, and they need to know that they are capable of doing what is right, and what behavior is acceptable. The sooner children learn that their choices have consequences for good or for bad the better.

Is spanking an effective method for disciplining children? I used to think it wasn’t, but now I’m not so sure. I do believe that a parent or other authority figure who would use spanking abusively would mistreat children in other ways too. But even parents, teachers, and administrators who aren’t abusive need to be extremely cautious when it comes to corporal punishment. A child might be more sensitive or fragile than they look, and could be easily injured. Angry parents could also cause serious trouble if they think their child may have been mistreated or even harmed. Never forget that when children tell their side of a story they may gloss over or omit facts that could get them into further trouble, and embellish actions or statements that could make the teacher or administrator appear to be insensitive, prejudiced, and downright abusive.

Children do not need physical pain, and they certainly don’t need to be abused. But they do need discipline, which they can best learn from adults who are reaping the benefits of self-discipline.

How to be a Miracle Maker Monday, Dec 29 2008

Create the Love, Money, Body & Spirit You Want

Here’s a fascinating secret about miracles: You can’t necessarily always place an order for magic at will, but you can deliberately create the conditions-environment, atmosphere and attitude-that make miracles a thousand times more likely to occur. Want to know how you can create a miracle-friendly world? By taking these practical steps, you will bring magic into your relationships, health, finances and more!

Your ability to Make Miracles is in direct proportion to your willingness to:

1. Tell yourself more truth about the situation you want to transform

The more honest you are about where you’re really at, the more personal power you have to realize your dreams. By aligning yourself accurately with what is real, you retrieve all of the life force you’ve invested in holding together false situations and relationships. This re-captured energy then attracts the goals you desire. In this universe what’s congruent gets the energy. What’s not congruent doesn’t get the energy. Where aren’ t you being honest or accurate about some aspect of your life? What truth about your life is right now safe, timely, helpful, nurturing and liberating for you to acknowledge to yourself?

2. Act “outside the box”

All magic occurs beyond the boundaries of your current belief system. What obstacles lie between you and moving outside your ” comfort zone?” Where could you let your vision for your life be more outrageous? More fun? More of what you really want?

3. Withdraw from collective mass consciousness

Step beyond general consensus to remove the limits of what’s possible for you to have. Many people have changed society-and had fun-by doing “what couldn’t be done.” You can too. When you withdraw your energy field from the energy field of the tribal collective agreement, you can create outside that agreement. Be ” in the world, but not of it.” Where in your life would it serve you to step a little further outside of mass consciousness thinking?

4, Use the Law of Attraction: Energize what you love with gratitude

Our magnetic field of energy is always (all ways) attracting exactly what we need to create our heart’s desires. Discover the ancient wisdom of multiplying what you have with deep thankfulness. As you pour the vibration of appreciation into the love, health, prosperity and joy that you already have, this vibration will magnetize more of the same to you. It’s the physics of the Universe. What aspects of your life could you right now be genuinely grateful for?

5. Experience “concrete, physical” reality as energy

When we choose to experience so-called “solid” things as the vibrational energy-fields of energy-that they actually are, these aspects of our reality become infinitely more malleable and flexible in responding to our intentions. Where are you willing right now to open to experiencing your body-and other people, conditions, animals, rocks, emotions-as an energy field ( life force/flow dynamic) rather than as fixed, static, solid objects?

6. Reclaim your Personal Power

Are you energizing ideas and activities and maintaining relationships that no longer serve you? When you choose to invest in those relationships and situations that do feed your dreams, you regain tremendous personal power. When you choose to call back your spirit from the people, ideas and activities that no longer serve you, you regain tremendous personal power to invest in those relationships and situations that do feed your dreams. What are you tolerating, avoiding or denying in your life right now? Where are you compromising, sacrificing or settling for something less than what you really want? Where could you invest your time, energy and attention that would really serve you?

7. Relax your grip on your belief system

When you release your vise grip on the rigid, fixed beliefs you inherited from society, the things can shift that need to shift for something new, fresh, wonderful and miraculous to happen to you. What are your beliefs about how life operates? How important are these beliefs to your survival, identity, reputation (need for approval) and sense of worth? In what areas of your life could you right now relax your need to control the exact functioning of the people and events around you?

8. Build Your Chi - Your Internal Life Force Energy

Where could you be more accessible to energy-giving situations and people? Where could you be more inaccessible to energy- draining situations and people? How can you naturally and easily “build your internal life force chi” through activities that are fun for you? What in your life are you not experiencing as an adventure?

9. Connect directly with Spirit

Your soul is in charge of your life! Your spirit has been running the show from behind the stage curtain since the beginning of time. Open a direct line to the wonders, wisdom, support and guidance of your own brilliant soul plan. How do you mediate/pray? Is it as effective as you would like? Have you tried a moving meditation?

10. Align your personality with your soul

When you’re aligned with your true intentions in being here this lifetime, prosperity flows automatically with no effort or doingness. Align your everyday lifestyle with your soul vision and receive all the support, energy and love you need-and begin to enjoy the ride! What actions could you take that would bring your life more in accord with your life purpose? What changes could you make to be more authentic in your life?

11. Allow yourself to receive from Spirit

The primary joy and purpose of our spirit friends–the Ascended Masters, guardian angels, spirit guides, nature devas, spirit animals-is to assist us to reach our life goals. Do you regularly ask for assistance, and let in love and energy from your other dimensional allies?

12. Embrace your Shadow

What you choose not to see, you can’t change. What weaknesses, faults, fears and shortcomings do you feel you have-socially, physically, spiritually, romantically, financially, sexually? Are you willing to open up to your soul’s point of view on your so-called “dark side”?

13. Hang with people who nurture you

By your own pre-arranged conscious design, old soulmates deliver messages to you that trigger timely awareness, alchemy and awakening. What people and environments are not entirely safe, supportive or inspiring for you to be with? Where could you refuse to let another be reckless with your heart? Where could you be less reckless with another’s heart? Where could you celebrate the success of others?

14. Listen to your body

What lessons is your body reflecting to you? What wake-up calls from your body have you been denying? What’s the weight you are carrying around? What’s your body dying to tell you?

15. Follow the guiding signs and synchronicities Spirit gives you everyday

Our soul is always (all ways) trying to steer us toward our goals. We live in an interactive, responsive universe that is designed to fulfill our deepest dreams-if we would only play along! Allow your intuition to guide you to the forms and vehicles that will empower your spirit to express fully. What messages and signals has the Universe been sending you that you have been ignoring, misinterpreting, or are afraid to act on?

16. Choose to be innocent (free) of the past: Welcome surprise and serendipity

Open the door to more magic, meaning and money in your world by learning to suspend skepticism and conditioned responses. Learn to surf through the surprises of life, instead of being swept away by them.

17. Feng-shui your life: Give yourself a “spaceshift”

Feng-shui is the ancient art of consciously managing matter and energy within space. By intuitively re-arranging the elements of your daily life, you create the space to nurture the freedom, opportunities and effectiveness you desire. By clearing out the old, dead elements of your life, you create a natural vacuum and an unblocked channel for fresh, new energy and ideas to come into your private and professional life. How could you unblock your energy now? Where can you re-arrange the ways you live your everyday life in a fresh, new, intuitive way?

18. Live your life as an experiment

Consider your life as the latest-and greatest-experiment by human consciousness to express Heaven on Earth-or just to have fun playing in the 3rd dimension. Where could you lighten up, celebrate and have more humor in your approach to living?

The Cost of Dental Implants Monday, Dec 29 2008

As a form of elective surgery, the cost of dental implants can often be considerably higher than that of a simple crown of cap. Prices can vary greatly depending on the specific procedure, doctor and expectations of the patient. The cost of a single implant can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars, with some individuals spending tens of thousands of dollars on a complete rehabilitation. On average, patients can expect to spend around $1500 per tooth for a quality dental implant.

The process is two-fold, and involves inserting the implant itself within the patient’s jawbone, then restoring the decayed or missing tooth with an artificial one. The result is a healthier looking, safer, more natural and longer-lasting smile. When one considers this fact, the additional cost of dental implants usually makes sense.

The materials used to produce modern dental implants are costly themselves, not to mention the entire team of dental specialists needed to properly conduct the procedure. But when one considers that, unlike most parts of the human body, teeth can maintain their youthful allure for one’s entire lifespan with proper care, dental implant prices are more than justified.

Unlike the insertion of dental caps or bridges, which often have an adverse effect on adjacent teeth or gums, implants offer far superior long-term benefits. The resulting winning smile from a bridge can be short-lived compared to that of the high-tech dental implant, which does not rely on support from neighboring teeth and consequently causes no short or long-term damage.

The results are safer, more attractive and very consistent in adults with generally good oral health. Candidates who may be lacking good dental and oral hygiene are recommended to consult an expert before seeking dental implants. As always, precautions must be taken before electing to undergo any surgery and a responsible practitioner will only operate on a health candidate.

The Benefits of Slip Covers Saturday, Dec 27 2008

Your couch is ugly and out-dated. Your loveseat looks raggedy, with threads hanging in spots. Just the sight of your old-fashioned living room makes you depressed. You’ve already been to the furniture store and there is no way you can afford a new set. What on earth should you do? You could consider slipcovers.

Slipcovers are an inexpensive way of giving your furniture — and your room — a makeover. A slipcover is a piece of fabric, specially made to fit a particular type of furniture. You simply place it over your existing couch, loveseat, chair, or whatever, and instantly, you have a whole new look.

Slipcovers can be made of most any fabric. Though you can use any fabric you want, it is best to pick a sturdy fabric that can withstand regular use. Good, strong fabrics include canvas, denim, linen, chintz, and ticking. Any one of those fabrics could create a slipcover able to handle even the most rambunctious children.

Slipcovers can be elegant or whimsical, elaborate or simple, flashy or understated — all depending on the materials used. Whatever your decorating goals, they can be accomplished with the right slipcover.

Slipcovers are available in a wide variety of colors and fabrics. Florals, stripes, checks, solids, and plaids are always popular choices. If you have a particular fabric you are trying to match, such as a tablecloth or curtain, you could even have the slipcover custom made.

Better yet, you could make it yourself. If you have some basic sewing skills, slipcovers are a relatively easy project.

Slipcovers are inexpensive enough to be changed regularly. You can change them as the season — or your mood — changes. With a little bit of cash and decorating savvy, you can make over your entire home. A carefully chosen and well-cared for slipcover can offer you years of enjoyment.

The Benefits of Electric Snow Blowers Saturday, Dec 27 2008

Electric snow blowers are just the thing to buy if you live in a region that never gets more than 6 to 10 inches per snowfall.

Electric snow blowers don’t rely on gasoline for power. Rather, they utilize a 6- to 12-amp cord, which you can plug into a regular wall outlet up to 150 feet away. They’re highly maneuverable in tight spaces, but you must always be aware of the cord because accidentally slicing through it can be a safety hazard. As with all snow blowers, it is recommended that only adults use them.

All electric snow blowers are single-stage units. This means there is only one auger for both scooping and throwing snow. The auger is a spindle with two or more curved blades or paddles spanning the width of the snow blower, rolling above and parallel to the ground. The high-speed auger of a single-stage machine eats snow and sends it flying up and out of the chute or vane.

Larger electric snow blowers have a chute that you can rotate in any direction up to a 190 sweep. Smaller units tend to have a stationary vane that guides the snow out of one side of the machine.

Electric snow blowers usually throw snow 20 to 30 feet away. They can clear paths 12 to 20 inches wide, and move 200 to 900 pounds of snow per minute. All of these models feature an electric start rather than a recoil start, so there are never any cords to pull. All this power comes in a package that is easy to store, sometimes weighing as little as 10 pounds and rarely more than 25 pounds - light enough so you can pick it up and chip away at some of the deeper snow banks. And because electric can be just as durable as gas power, many electric units come with 2-year warranties.

If you need to move more than 6 to 10 inches of snow, or you have more than an acre of surface to uncover, or your driveway is made of gravel, then an electric snow blower won’t get you very far. If this is the case, it’s better to invest in a gas-powered unit. A single-stage gas-powered unit is the next step up — great for flat surfaces and mild to medium snowfalls at any distance from the building. For larger jobs and uneven terrain, go with the big guns: A dual-stage machine.

The $100 Slot Machine Challenge Friday, Dec 26 2008

The $100 Slot Challenge
By Tony R Frank, www.slotadvisor.com

“You have $100 to bet at a casino… your challenge is to double your money. How would you tackle this challenge?”

Is there a strategy for doubling a $100 bankroll playing slot machines? If you assumed that slots are purely a game of luck, I’ve got news for you. Instead of playing haphazardly and hoping for the best, you can use methods that give you about as good a chance as if you were to plunk down $100 for even-money betting at your favorite table game.
First I would pick the right machine. Some slots give you a good shot at meeting this challenge while others are more likely to steal all your money. The most important feature when choosing a machine is the pay table. Too many players are attracted to a slot machine dangling the carrot of a huge jackpot. Others pick one simply because its big and shiny and looks enticing.

Large jackpots mean fewer smaller payouts. Big winners’ fortunes are financed not by the casino but by many losers. It is better to select machines with small to moderate jackpots. For the same wager, you have a much better chance of winning 800 coins than you would have chasing 20,000 coins.

Also avoid slots where half of all possible payouts are in the 2, 5, 10 and 20 coin range. Although you might get frequent wins, the amounts aren’t big enough to prevent your bankroll from slowly but surely grinding down to zero.

The best strategy for meeting this double-your-money challenge is to look for a single pay line, two-coin machine with a modest jackpot and a pay table featuring a good range of medium sized prizes.

The ideal pay table looks something like this:
One Coin Two Coins
800 1,600
80 160
60 120
40 80
30 60
20 40
10 20
5 10
2 4
On slot machines with this kind of pay board, wins of small to medium proportions occur more frequently, because most of the money does not have to go towards a giant jackpot. You have an excellent chance of catching enough mid-range payouts to stretch your time at the machine by simply recycling your winnings. The longer you can make your money last, the better your chances of eventually lining up the jackpot combination. To succeed at slots you need staying power.

So, my strategy for doubling a $100 slots playing stake goes like this:
I would choose a two-coin 25-cent machine with a single-pay line and a jackpot of 800 and 1,600 coins for one-coin and two-coin play respectively. And the slot will have to provide decent mid-range payouts. Double Diamond or Wild Cherry machines are good candidates in brick-and-mortar casinos.

Choose your machines carefully, not all Double Diamond or Wild Cherry slots have identical pay tables. The brand of a machine is not really important it’s the pay table that counts. Online casinos will have slots that meet our requirements, but don’t look for the same machine names as you see in live casinos.

I would play single coins until I had exhausted my $100 or had hit that 800-quarter ($200) jackpot. Towards that end, I would have to make the $100 starting bankroll last as long as possible by recycling all those small payouts. The more spins, the more chances I would have of lining up the winning combination.

Playing one quarter per spin and reinvesting the smaller winnings has two objectives. Either the $200 (800 coin) jackpot is hit, or there will be sufficient smaller payouts to tally up 800 coins or $200 on the credit meter. Either way, you meet the challenge of turning $100 into $200. You can’t expect to reach this goal every time, but I believe the success rate will be about the same as in even-money table game betting.

So there you have it. If you’re ever asked to double your bankroll on slot machines, those are the methods I am suggesting.

If you agree that it’s about time you separated yourself from the millions of slot players who are being shamelessly robbed of billions of dollars by the casinos, I invite you to go to www.slotscoach.com and discover my e-book “How to Really, Really Win at Slots”. And for plenty of free slot playing tips and strategies, please visit my web site at www.slotadvisor.com

Take a Chance, Win a Prize! Thursday, Dec 25 2008

I think that we're all probably familiar with the fairground rant 'take a chance, win a prize'. Whenever I hear this call to action, I immediately break out into a cold sweat. Whether the test is to knock down 6 cans in pyramid formation or to throw a dart at a balloon, I'm there, almost hypnotically, pulling coins out of my pocket. And it doesn't really matter what prizes are on offer either. It could be stuffed panda bears, bubble makers or even Velcro wallets. What's important to me is rising to the challenge and having a go.

Now I know that many of you may have suffered from this 'fairground fever' at one time or another. But do you actually take this fearless enthusiasm out into the real world when the carnival is over?

Taking chances.

Taking a chance is effectively doing something that has an uncertain payoff. To use our fairground adventure as an example — playing a game where there is a chance you might win a prize and a chance that you might not. Now as nice as it is to win prizes, it is important not to become side tracked into believing that this is the only reason you should play the game, because it isn't. To become players of life, we need to be continually growing and expanding our capabilities regardless of the outcome.
When we step outside of what is comfortable, not only do we become more adept at assessing risk in the future but our innate ability to handle risk is also greatly enhanced. It is from this space that you will find the prizes of life flowing naturally to you.

Fearless living.

Can you remember your last encounter with someone that was truly fearless? Someone brimming with self confidence, unquestionable enthusiasm and the bravado to take seemingly impossible risks? Chances are that person probably couldn't walk, let alone string a sentence together.
That's right, the most fearless people on the planet are the little humans we call children.

You can do anything.

When we come into this world, we believe that we can do absolutely anything. We play, we experiment and we push the boundaries of our existence on a daily basis. Why? Because it's fun and because we're curious about the world that we live in. We constantly search out unexplored frontiers with a wild fascination, often with little consideration for the accompanying risks. Slowly but surely however, most of us become convinced by well meaning adults that we are anything other than invincible.

Become aware of your conditioning.

It is said that by the time each of us reaches the age of 5, we have heard the word “no” more than 40,000 times! Can you remember a parent or parental figure telling you to 'be careful' every time you went off to school or to play? Now I am not suggesting for a moment that making children aware of life's dangers isn't a great approach to take as a parent. What I am saying is as a grown adult, become aware of any childhood conditioning that may be holding you back from taking intelligent risks.

Have you ever experienced a time where there was something new that you desperately wanted to try, but for some unidentifiable reason you couldn't bring yourself to give it a go and you regretted it afterwards? There is a good possibility that this could be linked with your early associations with risk taking. Just remember that we don't always have to play life on the safe side. Often our greatest triumphs come from daring to engage our courage.

Love the game.

The secret to taking chances is to reconnect with the fearless little person inside of you. Make life fun again by reawakening the inquisitive parts of you that yearn for growth. Rekindle your drive to be more and do more. Start doing things for the pure joy of the experience. Climb a tree, play hide and seek with your work colleagues and if you pass a puddle on the street don't step around it, jump in it!

If you can capture this enthusiasm for living you won't have to worry about the prizes. Your life will become the prize!

Self Esteem And Attitude For Success Wednesday, Dec 24 2008

It’s All about Attitude and the Way We Think…

“We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.” Buddha

The Mind - Body Connection
What would it mean if the thoughts we have when we start our day actually affect what happens without our having to do anything about it? What if all thoughts, conscious or not, influence the world? Would we start the day yelling at our children? Dashing out the door? Making “to do” lists? How would it change our lives?

We are learning, from quantum physics, neurosciences and consciousness studies remarkable connections between mind and body. Thoughts, or the way you decide to think, has a dramatic effect on your body chemistry and on your physiology. For every thought you have, a physiological event occurs in unison with that thought. Your physiology determines your energy and action level. If your internal self-talk is negative, then the physiology that simultaneously occurs will be just as negative resulting in suppressed energy and action. You are mentally and physically programming yourself to go through life in a particular way. The same is true with positive thoughts. When you think positive, happy thoughts, there’s actually a different chemistry that goes into your body than when you think depressing, negative, anguished thoughts.

Since you can only hold one thought at a time, if you think about what you want and how to get it, and then take the steps that come to your mind, eventually you won’t have time to think about all of your problems. Pretty soon it becomes habit. You develop a series of neuro-connections in your brain that make it easy and automatic for you to focus on what you want. Once it becomes a habit, your whole life starts to move faster and faster towards creating what you want.

You may recall the old saying, “If you think you can or think you cannot, you are probably right”. The mind is so powerful that it will create what you believe is true or possible. In fact, the mind is such a powerful instrument, it can deliver to you literally everything you want. But you have to believe that what you want is possible. You also have to believe that you are capable of making it happen…Whether you call it self-esteem, self-confidence or self-assurance, it is a deep-seated belief that you have what it takes-the abilities, inner resources, talents and skills to create your desired results.

Quantum Physics Experiment- Why Vizualization and Positive Thinking are Powerful

Nuero scientists have done experiments with the brain measuring what part of the brain becomes active when we are looking at an object versus visualizing the object. They’re conclusions are amazing. Dr. Joe Dispenza explains in the movie, What the Bleep Do We Know! an experiment where they had a person view an object as the scientists measured the electrical pulses in a certain area of the brain that were lit up. They then asked the person to close their eyes and visualize the object they had just look at. The same exact areas of the brain lit up with electrical pulses which gives a very startling finding. The brain can not tell the difference between what you are seeing and what you are visualizing. This finding explains why you can think about something in the past and get very emotional about it- almost like it is happening at the moment. It also explains why visualization and positive thinking are so powerful. Just think about it…

Self-Esteem- The Fundamental Power of Your Life
Why am I writing about Self-Esteem in this book? The more clients I see, the more I realize that the quality of your life comes from your self-esteem…and it determines the actions you will take in life. You see, how you feel about yourself extends to every area of your life- your relationships, your career, what you do, how you speak, even how you dress. Just think about it for a moment. Your self-esteem, or opinion of yourself, is basically what will eventually make or break you in life. Our beliefs about ourselves are the most telling factors in determining the level of success and happiness in life.

One of the most consistent messages in any self-development seminar or book is that the way you speak to yourself will eventually decide how well you go in life. Every negative thought is an inhibitor- it keeps you clogged up just like colesterol clogs up an artery. When you are filled with negativity, you are kept from attaining higher levels of happiness and fulfillment.

By controlling your self-talk, you decide how you want to view life. What happens in life happens and you can’t change that. I love the quote “We can’t control the direction of the wind, but we can adjust our sails.” In other words, we can adjust our attitude and thoughts to look at life’s events and deal with them is in a positive and constructive manner. Now the good news: with every every single setback or difficulty or life “test” you gain a lesson. So instead of becoming upset about what happened, you simply focus on the lesson, and the potential gain. And the very seeking of the lesson makes you more positive and focused person. One of Napoleon Hill’s, author of Think and Grow Rich, key principles is that in every problem or setback, there is the seed of an equal or greater benefit or advantage.

We all move in the direction of our current thoughts, so where you are is no accident. Words trigger pictures in your mind, which then trigger emotions, which in turn decide how you feel on a given day. Which words do you find yourself using often? This is a very important issue- how you talk about things really does have a HUGE impact on how you feel. If you keep affirming good opinions of yourself as part of your daily routine, you will start to see a shift in your attitude to a more positive and energized style. The opposite also applies, if you let your thoughts drift to negativity, which zaps your energy and self-confidence and motivation, than before you know it you will be down in the dumps and feeling depressed. Make a commitment now to start speaking with upbeat, energize words when having conversations with friends, family and co-workers.

You also have a responsibility to develop other people’s self-esteem and worth.

Being FREE to Live your Life the Way YOU Want it
So many people feel like they have to live up to their family’s expectations and those around them. Make a commitment to yourself to NOT live your life around the approval of other people. Respect your life so much so that you are strong enough NOT TO NEED the approval of other people. Dr. Wayne Dyer says “You can’t go around being what everyone else expects you to be, living your life through other people’s rules, and also be happy and have inner peace.” The the ultimate decision in life is simply to make your decisions and live your life as you want to live it, without infringing on the rights of others. What others think about you and what they think about your decisions may challenge you. However, the final decisions are your own and you shape your life either by decisions you make or those you do not make.

Satellite Radio For Those Who Spend Time In The Outback! Tuesday, Dec 23 2008

Satellite radio has been a godsend to people in remote locations, or even just those who travel long distances. In the past while on a long car trip, every hour or so you’d have to start fiddling with the radio, as the station you were listening to turned to static after up to an hour of fading in and out. Then just as you’d find a new one, it, too would go to static, and so it would go on. Now with the advent of satellite radio, that static and fiddling will be a thing of the past.

Conventional radio signals can only travel 30 or 40 miles from their source, so the further away you travel from the radio transmitter, the fainter and weaker these traditional signals will become. Satellite radio waves travel from space - 22,000 miles away, yet you will be able to travel across the country without having to change radio stations and quite possibly without having to endure endless commercials about things that you are not really interested in.

Cars, with satellite radios, have been coming for many years now. But as the service takes off many more drivers will be making use of the new technology and be grateful for the flexibility it provides. At present there are only three space-based radio broadcasters, but many more are in the pipeline, as the Federal Communications Commission sanctioned a sum of $80 million to give licenses to companies to make use of the specified radio band for digital satellite radio transmission.

These three different satellite companies have done research and development in different areas and this has led to the offering of different services by them. No doubt the VHS Vs Beta type of battle would continue to intensify in the time to come as the technology progresses. Only time and sponsorship would decide who the winner of this battle would be. But whatever happens, it would only be good news for travelers as more and more companies are waiting to join this exciting field.

Two of the companies, XM Radio and Worldspace, already have an agreement with each other to share new technological developments and to continue to work together to create further innovations in this expanding field. This can only be good for consumers, particularly those who frequent remote locations on a regular basis.
