Chew Lips seemed to have come from out of nowhere, as they formed just a little over a year ago, when they promptly began writing a huge amount of material and performing it at clubs in London.

Chew Lips appear to enjoy themselves quite a bit during interviews - they seem to have almost as much fun chatting to cameras and tape recorders as they do making music and performing onstage. This is likely because the trio behind the band - Tigs, Will and James - is always up for a good time, and seems to always be having one, whether their music is being described as “mournful pop” or not. (”F*ck me,” Tigs says to Sup Mag. “Who described it as that?”)

“Yeah, James and I lived in New Cross, and Will was in Dulwich,” Tigs reports to Sup Mag. “We lived with bands who knew each other, rehearsed in the same studios, so same old really. I don’t remember how it started but I knew James through a friend, and was suggesting we start a band for a while.”

She turns to James, and tells him: “I think you were busy, or didn’t want to, then you saw me live and you changed your mind!”
“She’s a terrible show-off,” James reports.

Chew Lips recently released their second single, “Salt Air,” to a boatload of good press, and after finally selecting ten of their numerous songs to apply to an album, the band is awaiting its pending release. The Chew Lips Salt Air single is already the subject of much praise from music blogs.

“There wasn’t a template of how we wanted to sound at all,” Tigs says, “it wasn’t like we sat down and said ‘these are our clear influences,’ we just didn’t want to be a guitar band, as we all have those in our musical past, there’s so many around and we’re not interested in that. So we went in with loads of instruments, drum machines, laptops…”
