Chew Lips Salt Air Single Already Praised by Blogs Wednesday, Sep 9 2009

Chew Lips seemed to have come from out of nowhere, as they formed just a little over a year ago, when they promptly began writing a huge amount of material and performing it at clubs in London.

Chew Lips appear to enjoy themselves quite a bit during interviews - they seem to have almost as much fun chatting to cameras and tape recorders as they do making music and performing onstage. This is likely because the trio behind the band - Tigs, Will and James - is always up for a good time, and seems to always be having one, whether their music is being described as “mournful pop” or not. (”F*ck me,” Tigs says to Sup Mag. “Who described it as that?”)

“Yeah, James and I lived in New Cross, and Will was in Dulwich,” Tigs reports to Sup Mag. “We lived with bands who knew each other, rehearsed in the same studios, so same old really. I don’t remember how it started but I knew James through a friend, and was suggesting we start a band for a while.”

She turns to James, and tells him: “I think you were busy, or didn’t want to, then you saw me live and you changed your mind!”
“She’s a terrible show-off,” James reports.

Chew Lips recently released their second single, “Salt Air,” to a boatload of good press, and after finally selecting ten of their numerous songs to apply to an album, the band is awaiting its pending release. The Chew Lips Salt Air single is already the subject of much praise from music blogs.

“There wasn’t a template of how we wanted to sound at all,” Tigs says, “it wasn’t like we sat down and said ‘these are our clear influences,’ we just didn’t want to be a guitar band, as we all have those in our musical past, there’s so many around and we’re not interested in that. So we went in with loads of instruments, drum machines, laptops…”

Sky Lanterns Friday, Jun 26 2009

With Glastonbury approaching there is one specific product that comes to mind, sky lanterns. They have, in recent years, become an integral part of any Glastonbury-goers experience. In an interview last year the headliner’s, Kings of Leon, cited the release of lanterns from the Stone Circle as their most powerful memory of the festival. If you do not directly launch one from the magical Stone Circle you are likely to witness their unearthly presence as they drift up and across the roaming Somerset countryside. It is no coincidence that the launching of the lanterns, with their connotations of serenity and hope, have become intrinsically linked with the Stone Circle. This field is where festival goers seek respite in the depths of the night, sitting and chatting communally around fires in the free spirit that remains at the heart of the festival. As is traditional with sky lanterns, a wish is made with each one released. It is a close to numinous experience to watch from the hillside of the Circle as the wishes float across the packed festival, oblivious to the chaotic crowds beneath them, up in to the sky and out of sight. Watching the sky lanterns take this journey in to the clouds is a pure moment to contemplate and escape. It is one of the reasons that in spite of its ever sprawling size, Glastonbury remains unparalleled.

Custom Electric Guitar - There are many guitars and different quality electric guitars available on the market, but the best bet as far as purchasing a professional quality instrument is a custom electric guitar. Which company you choose to go with is largely a matter of personal preference, Jackson Guitars (FMIC) and the Gibson Guitar Company produce world class custom electric guitar models that are second to none. Like the difference between putting onto a freeway with a 4 cylinder and a 12 cylinder car, the custom electric guitar will in most cases make playing exponentially easier, making it a much more pleasurable task and less of a chore. ADIRONDACK versus SITKA SPRUCE Tuesday, May 27 2008

Both of these timbers make great soundboards on flat top acoustic guitars. They have had popularity at different times in history heres the story so far.

Adirondack or Red Spruce was very popular piror to WWII. It is found on a lot vintage acoustic guitars. The high weight to strength ratio made it useful in the construction of aeroplane wings during the war. The ratio is what makes it so prized amongst guitar Luthiers. After the war most of the good trees were gone, and what is still available, has cosmetic flaws. If you can put up with this it still makes great sounding guitars especially if you want a new guitar with that vintage sound.

This scarcity led to the use of Sitka Spruce as the number one guitar top of the big guitar Luthiers. It is found on most guitars. If you step into some guitar shops like I have and ask to play an Adirondack you will often be greeted with a puzzled look from the shop assistant. The easiest way to get you hands on one is to play a vintage instrument or have a custom guitar built.
